Bloggers banquet on for Monday 12th

It looks like people will start arriving about 7ish but I will be lighting the pizza oven at lunchtime.

Bring your own food (and booze) and plates, glasses and cutlery.

The idea is to share – I’m going to do a chocolate and banana pizza,

Wish I could come too but unfortunately I have an appointment that evening. Please post a photo of the chocolate and banana pizza, you don’t roll the dough for that do you??

    Ed,

Just spoke to Rob, from Veg Out. We’ll bring up some wood, to replace the stuff we use, they’ve got a paddle and some trays, but if anyone else out there has some pizza pans, I suggest you bring them (I’ll bring three)

The oven should only take about 2-3 hours to get to temp (800C for pizzas is do-able, and then put any slow roast stuff in after that), so we shouldn’t have to fire it any earlier than 4ish

I’m bringing asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, pesto-stuffed tommies (in honour of Ed’s organising this!~!) and some sort of berry-desserty thingy. I will be following Ed on the scrounge for pizza.

This is so like a dodgy blind-date… “I’ll be the one wearing a yellow gerbera in my button-hole!!!”

    ;)

    Looking forward to Monday… Vida x x

Ilva, shame.. Don’t worry I don’t want to lose my hands but may bring a rolling pin along for those who want to live dangerously.

    Cool, Cindy and Mutemonkey.

PG, i spoke to Don who apparently looks after this stuff but if Rob says 2-3 hours is okay then we’ll do it at four. Maybe I’ll think of some starter thing for the oven.

Vida, cool we can scrounge from you.

I think Tummy Rumbles is a maybe too (maybe a maybe?!).

I’ve pretty much decided I’m going to bring a few (cold) marinated roast chickens, and then maybe some bikkies, or muffins, or something like that, and whatever else grabs my attention.

I’ll be there. Hope to see what everyone actually looks like. I’ve already imagined how you all look like in my head from your writing style.

I can only make dessert so it’s probably chocolate cake and brownies from me.

I’m a definite. I’ll be bringing a hummingbird cake and something else, not sure yet. It’s hard deciding what to bring! :)

Gobbler, I’ve set up a Flickr photogroup and if sover enough may even do a comic life rendition of the event. With you in spirit too.

Anna, Duncan, Thanh, Linda – cool although it sounds we are going to be eating a lot of cake.

Thanh, I’m the one who’s a bit like Jeremy Clarkeson but a little less of a gobshite.

I have a couple of barramundi that I’m contemplating doing in the wood fired oven on a bed of risotto and a tray of tomatoes to roast – but I get the feeling there’s not going to be enough room in the oven for them as well as pizza, so perhaps BBQ the fish? Or if there’s room just roast the fish on the tomatoes instead?

I also have some asparagus, red capsicum, eggplant and pumpkin to char grill on the vegie BBQ and will toss them together with some herbs and a garlicky dressing to make a warm salad.

Sticky, Barramundi in the oven sounds good.
Just to prove I’m not a f–die i bought some run of the mill ozzarella, olives and toms and will bring a savoury pizza dough as well.

Have funs guys! I know this would be awesome!

BTW I have a couple of small pizza trays and a large perforated one, which is so far untested, but was recommended for using in the Weber, so should go ok for the pizza makers.

Hi all, Can’t wait to meet everyone tonight. I may be bringing two of my regular dining companions with me (not sure – depends whether they are available or not) but I will definitely be there.

For a main I would like to bring my risotto. Is there a way of heating this up. If not I have a few other plans including some cold starters. Please advise so I can begin cooking.

For dessert I am making some simple chocolate ganache truffles.

    Very excited!!!!

    Jon,
There’s no cooking rights but you could try the risotto in the woodfired oven. i once had an amazing oven cooked risotto in Italy with a melted cheese topping.

Anh, sorryt o hear you can’t make it. next time.

I apologise for the late notice, but I’ve got the flu and I don’t think my germs would have been very welcome tonight. So regretfully, I cannot attend (I could have simply not showed up, but that would have been rude!)

I truly hope you all have a great night and I look forward to reading about it soon.

Ed, Do you think it wood work if I did an oven baked risotto but pre-cooked it and it can just be re-heated in the oven??? I have a simple recipe of my grandmas for oven baked risotto that tastes pretty good, but it would need to be pre-cooked. Just not sure about the re-heating and whether it would dry it out – guess it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Otherwise I will just do some simple filo triangles with mixed fillings. Either way i got to start cooking NOW>>>

I think hubs is planning to meet you there about 4ish with a load of red-gum. Look out for a short, fat, hairy-biker looking dude.

He answers to the name “Furry”

    DO. NOT. FEED. HIM. BOURBON.

I am all readt to go, and am bringing (along with my dishes), some organic salt, some chilli-infused olive oil and some balsamic reduction, for splashing on various nibblie-bits.

PG, cool. I’ll see him there with a couple of bags of kindling I found hidden away. Personally, I can’t go near any fermented grain so Furry will be safe with me.

Jon/Sticky great to see you. Thank to everyone for coming. I’ve uploaded my pics to:

I’ll also post on the event but for now i have to do some old-fashioned media work. Sorry this site keeps going down because of traffic – I’ll try and do something about it.

PG, good to meet you and the F-man sans bourbon.
Mutemonkey, I’ve just remembered i usually do the choc pizza as a Calzone – next opportunity.
Duncan, it was great especially your macarons.
Jack, good to know who to look for in St.K now…
NedK, will stay in contact. Thansk for coming. Where’s the blog?
Ran, I’m sure there will be many more.Vida, I think some more regular ones would be a good idea in different locations with different themes.
    Jess, another time I’m sure
Thanh, good to finally meet. A restaurant would be a good idea although it can be difficult with big but uncertain numbers.

Have to say guys the food looks fantastic, good to see all you bloggers showing much flair in the culinary skills. Ed, well done for organising the whole shibang, would’ve loved to have attended, next time me and the missus will tag along, if that’s ok…are industry types (i.e. non-bloggers) welcome? As long as we bring a bite? Although Ed, I have to say, you’re shirt has confounded my graphics card and it’s now on strike in a Francais stylee…my solicitors will be in touch ;-)

The whole thing is pretty special though, imagine all the ‘dead media’ food folks doing something similar…John Lethlean bringing obscure vintage Chorizo, Matt Preston, his favourite curry a la on a budget, Stephen Downes with his linen and pinkie…nice thought though somewhat unlikely…vive Les Bloggers…excuse my bad French.

I was at The Harvest Picnic yesterday and an old friend reminded me that nearly 20 years ago, I used to hire a 15 seater bus and drive a bunch of us there. The next Harvest Picnic is at Hanging Rock on February 24 and perhaps we could do this as a gathering – no cooking required though picnics and eskies can be brought along to share? Tickets for groups of ten or more are $14ea and the money goes towards raising the profile of local producers. Not sure how much it costs to hire the vehicle, but should be economical when split per head, and allows for wine tasting and bloggers sans wheels to attend. Could meet up somewhere central for the 45 minute drive.
(I’ll post this at the FlickR discussion thread too)

Sticky, sounds like an idea but you’ll need to get money upfront as inevitably there will be no shows. I’ve been to a few of these picnics but must admit I’m a bit off these types of events as i find there is too much emphasis on the commercial side. Though some of the food and drink is good a fair amount is not.

Ed, I was the same about the exhibitors, and hadn’t consequently been for a few years. On sunday we went on a whim and bumped into friends. I was actually quite surprised by the improvement in the quality of goods at Werribee, admittedly some of the producers I regularly buy from at the farmers markets were there, but why not?

Gone are the restaurants touting their business and there was a marked increase in wineries and boutique breweries offering good drops. Plenty of small ventures pooled resources and shared tents this time. The event was smoothly run with no traffic issues and there were adequate facilities in the way of public conveniences and drinkable tap water available.

As for the collecting moula upfront, I don’t organise anything without money down first. It comes of running my own underground dining movement in the past. It’s sad to think how unreliable people can be unless they are well and truly goaded into committing by their peers…Human nature I guess.
