Reflections on beer glasses

Sure Asahi isn’t the cheapest beer on Tap. But that is more than compensated by the stylish frosted glass that this beer comes in. We’ve just popped in to recently refurbished Espy, (The Esplanade Hotel, 11 The Esplanade St Kilda 3183 +61 3 9534 0211) for a quick beer.
For those of you not in the know this pub has one of the best bay views in St Kilda. It serves the beers made or marketed by Fosters which means on tap it includes Victoria Bitter, Cascade, Stella and Asahi.
The satisfying thing about the tap Asahi is the aesthetics of a branded beer glass filled to the designated level. Somehow the beer tastes better that way.
The same goes for beer at home. There are the tall thin pillars of Trummer Pils glasses I was accidentally sold for $2 each (they’re worst about $10) and the jug that came free with a six-pack of Budvar.
But there is a problem. I finish my earning evening blog and figure I deserve a beer. And Jackie asks for a small glass. Usually my answer is a decisive “no” and an argument ensues.
Being girly she only wants about a third of a bottle, certainly not more than half. I’m left with less beer than I want – I was psyched up for a full bottle – and an aesthetically challenged glass.
But we have a solution. Those clever bods at Fosters now distribute a mini Corona with 7fl oz. Jackie gets her small glass. I get my full one. Happy, very.
